Job Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive product counsel to join our Legal team, who would work closely with the Product team. This role is crucial in ensuring that our products meet all applicable legal, regulatory, and industry standards. The ideal candidate will also work closely with cross-functional teams, including product development, marketing, and quality assurance, to identify compliance requirements and implement effective strategies.

 

Job Description 

Scope of role and cross-functional focus: 

  • The successful candidate will be a member of the Chargebee Legal department and the key responsibilities are listed below. 

  • Although part of the Legal team, the successful candidate will work alongside and spend significant time with the Product team, as well as other relevant cross-functional teams. 

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Research and Analysis: Research and analyze applicability of various laws, regulations and standards to Chargebee products. 

  • Compliance Monitoring: Continuously monitor and analyze relevant laws, regulations and standards to stay on top of the requirements.

  • Gap assessments and audits: Conduct gap assessments and audits to identify gaps/potential compliance issues and recommend measures to close the gaps/ develop mitigation strategies.

  • Documentation: Prepare, review, and maintain comprehensive documentation relating to product compliance.

  • Training and Guidance: Provide training and guidance to internal teams on compliance requirements and best practices.

  • Liaison: Liaise with law firms, third party vendors and regulators relating to product compliance matters.

  • Policy Development: Assist in the development and implementation of compliance policies and procedures, primarily relating to product compliance.

  • Issue Resolution and Queries: Investigate and resolve compliance-related issues, ensuring timely and effective solutions; respond to queries from internal and external stakeholders relating to product compliance.

  • Reporting: Provide status updates to management and relevant internal stakeholders.

  • Advice on strategic decisions: Advice Product/business teams on product compliance when expanding to new geographies, introduction of new products etc.

  • Communication: Communicate complex legal and regulatory concepts clearly to internal product and engineering teams, ensuring alignment between legal requirements and technical implementation. Serve as a legal point of contact for Chargebee customers on matters relating to product compliance, in relation to contracts and otherwise.

 

Must Have 

  • Strong communication skills and fluency in English.

  • Good interpersonal skills with ability to work collaboratively across teams.

  • Attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high compliance standards.

Around 10 years of experience in the SaaS industry (preferably Fintech industry), with a minimum of 5 years in a product compliance role.
